Estate management

How to raise shared-area problems and take part in estate inspections.

Updated:

Shared areas and routine services

Southwark publishes cleaning standards for communal areas, including lifts, litter, rubbish chutes, and dumped rubbish. Its separate grounds maintenance guidance describes the outdoor service. These are council service descriptions, not evidence that an individual task has been completed on this estate.

For a missed service, record the location, date, and problem. A photograph can help explain the issue, but avoid including neighbours or personal information. Use the council’s estate services reporting route or resident services contacts. Use the repairs guide for a damaged fitting, door, or other repair.

Estate inspections

Southwark says its estate inspections are monthly walks with council officers and residents. They cover cleanliness, grounds, communal repairs, and safety issues. Contact resident services to ask for the next inspection affecting your block; no estate-specific date is confirmed here. Join an estate inspection.

Bring a short list of locations and existing report references. Ask which service will handle each issue and how to follow up. An inspection is a useful way to raise recurring problems, but urgent faults should be reported through the appropriate service when they occur.
